How to install the starter by yourself? First, you have to disconnect your battery since you are dealing with electronic components that are connected directly to it. Next, locate your starter and decide if you are going to need to lift the car (most often, you will). Make sure your working surface is completely level, lift the car and set it on jack stands. Now, get under the car and disconnect the lead wire from the starter solenoid. At this point, you can now unbolt the starter from the mounting bracket or engine block. Finally, you can replace your old starter with the new one. If just the solenoid is faulty, it can be removed from the motor and replaced independently.
