Recently a friend of mine was stuck in a serious rut; beans, rice, cheese and tortillas. No, they aren’t Spanish, but they do work outside, a lot and the weather is hot. So when I suggested steak they didn’t think I was serious. Then I got out this book and showed them what they could do to use steak to make fast, satisfying and enjoyable meals after work. They absolutely loved the Broiled Flank Steak with Warm Tomato Topping, the Barbecue Pizza Bites and the Grilled Sirloin Steak with Mango and Chile Salad. Tonight they are off to make a Flank Steak with Tomato Bruschetta. For those who are moving away from the carb and want to keep the flavor this is a great book. Also, if you are wanting some red meat but still want to keep your meals light for the summer heat look at the salads. They will give you the flavor and texture you are looking for without overheating or overfilling you.
This is a book about adding flavorings and spices to different steaks. It is not a book on the fine art of cooking the perfect steak. One thing that caught my attention is that the word "minutes" is spelled "mints" throughout the entire book. Susan should consider firing her editor for this tiny error that appears in every recipe in the book.
The recipes in this book work but I found them challenging. You will see a recipe with twenty ingredients, but only three steps. I would have preferred if each step was broken down into more of it's component steps. Maybe I'm just not skilled enough in the kitchen, but I like my recipe books to be "dumb-dad-proof" so that there is no risk of me making mistakes.
Once I caught on and got over the misspellings, the final results were some pretty decent steaks!
Recipes look OK if you can ignore the misuse of language. Ex: associated with cooking spray, spoon the ingredients until prepared (done/cooked), separate from pan, etc. At first I could ignore this but when every recipe has these irritating instructions - I couldn't make it through. I skipped to the end to give this a poor review. Who is giving the 5 stars?
