Additional Information

The Brilliance of the Sun Captured in Glass Each orb in the Glass Eye Studios Celestial series is individually handmade by a master craftsman using dichroic glass, fine gold and their signature ingredient- ash from the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens. Beautiful in their own right, these fine glassworks reveal their artistic details best when illuminated from below by an LED base (available separately). From the Manufacturer: Born of Fire Our artistic process is steeped in the beauty and mystery of glass from start to finish. We begin by applying immense heat to a mixture of sand to create molten glass. Each individual piece starts as a precise amount of glass on the end of a blowpipe or rod. The piece takes shape as the artist manipulates the glass with light but precise touches. After a quick fire-polish, the piece is slowly brought to room temperature over a period of days. Some pieces are finished using diamond wheel grinders and polishing stones. Each piece of glass shown is created by our artists here in our Seattle, Washington studio and contains ash from the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens.
