Happily-ever-after only happens once in a lifetime, right? But what if Prince Charming runs for the hills at the first sign of trouble and leaves you to pick up the pieces.
Thinking her marriage was over, Tessa was more than a little shocked to fall into the arms of her husband (literally) at a party she’d planned through her new company, Decadent Events. When he asks her out for coffee, she assumes it’s to sign the divorce papers he’d seen.
What’s a girl to do when her heart still goes pitter-patter for a man who ran out on her six months after they made their forever vows but comes back asking for another chance?

This was my first Steena Holmes book and I bought it because it was free during an Amazon promotion. It was short, but I have read well-crafted short stories. This was okay, but not superb.
There's a lot of angst in this story because Jude deserted his bride, Tess, after the wedding (we are not told how long after the wedding, but we know it is shortly after they married) without a word as to why. When I began reading the story, I thought he had been gone a long time -- we are told that Jude and Tess's one-year wedding anniversary is coming up soon -- but later it is revealed he has been gone three months. Three months seems a little short for so much angst and and hopelessness. Tess has even been making enquiries about getting a divorce because she doesn't know where Jude is and if he is ever coming back. She doesn't even think about trying to look for him? Hiring a private investigator?
Anyway, first there's all the song and dance about not knowing why he left...
What's good about the novella: no obvious errors in conventions/editing, so that's good. Pretty cover. The author can write sentences fluently.
Biggest problem: lack of plot. This novella could be written in about 10 pages, if it weren't drawn out by all the internal monologue angst on the part of both main characters. The author does not develop any plausible conflict. The author treats what should have been a 2-minute misunderstanding as a great mystery; the reader doesn't know what happened to cause the happy newlyweds to be split asunder until late in the story. When the secret is finally divulged, it is not worth anyone's time.
Please, Steena, use the negative reviews you are receiving (which mainly focus on the implausible plot) as an aid in improving your craft. I see that every negative review is being downvoted by someone, which strikes me as unfair to those who care enough about literature to take their own time and leave an honest critique.
In Sweet Memories, Book One of the Decadent Events, is the tale of what miscommunication in a marriage can do. Tess is dealing with running her business and with her husband, Jude running away from their marriage without giving a reason why he left when at a anniversary party for his parents, he decided to show back up after three months away. When Jude shows back up, he is hit with shocking news from his parents and a wife that doesn't know if she can trust him again.
When the party ends and Tess is finally able to go home, Jude is waiting for her on the porch wanting to give his side of the story. As Jude tells her where he has been and discovering that Tess has divorce papers in her purse, he realizes that there is only one thing to do. When Jude takes Tess out on a coffee date, everything comes out why he left and if he still has a chance to be with Tess.
Even though this was a very short read, I really loved it!! It does make you think, what would you do if...
