Highly detailed 1/700 scale model kit of the USS Indianapolis (CA-35), a Portland-class heavy cruiser of the U.S. Navy. Shortly after delivering critical parts for the atomic bomb "Little Boy" on July 26, 1945, USS Indianapolis was attack and sunk by the Japanese submarine I-58 under the command of Commander Mochitsura Hashimoto on July 30, 1945. Some historians speculate that the USS Indianapolis was struck by one or more piloted "Kaiten" suicide torpedoes during the attack by the Japanese Submarine I-58; although such theory raises some interesting questions for debate, it is not supported by history, which recorded that the Indianapolis was sunk by regular torpedoes. The USS Indianapolis National Memorial is located on the Canal Walk in Indianapolis. This model kit features precisely replicated USS Indianapolis' anti-aircraft armaments and equipment improvements in July 1945, 2-piece hull construction, precisely reproduced anchor chain and nonslip treatments on deck of the CA-35, rotating turrets, and two 1/700 scale Curtiss SC-1 Seahawks.
