Recently, a whole new arsenal of tactical rifles chambered for the most popular small caliber of all time—the .22 long-rifle rimfire—have exploded onto the firearms scene. Almost overnight, every major name in the industry jumped on the bandwagon, producing their own versions of tactical .22s based on their popular full-bore battle rifle designs. You could pay top dollar to get one of these factorymade tactical 10/22s, but it won't be customized to fit your needs and tastes. What you need is a one-of-a-kind custom-made tactical 10/22 that you can assemble yourself.
Tactical Ruger 10/22 is the ultimate reference for showing you how to do just that. Written by J.M.Ramos, a noted gun designer and authority on rimfire weapons systems for more than 30 years, this book features simple, step-by-step instructions and hundreds of photographs for assembling a worldclass tactical 10/22 from start to finish. The stunning rifles presented in the book use state-of-the-art 10/22 platforms made by RB Precision (Evolution stock), Nordic Components (AR-22), and Canadian made Fabsports (FS-556). These high-quality, CNC-machined, aircraft-grade aluminum chassis are designed to accept virtually every AR rifle stock, grip, forearm, tactical rail, backup sight, optics, bipod, and muzzle device out there.
Whether you own a stock 10/22 or the new Ruger SR-22 that you want to transform into a more versatile multigun weapon system, Tactical Ruger 10/22 shows how to turn out the perfect marksman, sniper simulator, or competition rifle for you.

....but squandered much of it. You have to be careful in building the "tactical" 10/22. Doing it just because it looks cool can lead to overdoing it with the result being an overweight, totally impractical money pit. I like for my "tactical" 10/22's to be practical first. Unfortunately, most of the rifles pictured in this book are overdone, overweight, impractical affairs that generously feed the "mall ninja" stereotype. I see iron sights that couldn't possibly line up. I see optics mounted so high that one could never possibly use them and have a proper cheek weld. Still, there is some good material here for inspiration and it's good that a book like this was ever published in the first place, no matter how flawed. It's not bad, it just needs some polish and perhaps some more technical information. The builds pictured could certainly use some refinement. A little variety would be nice as well. A fair addition to your library if you like "tactical" 10/22's, a waste of time if you're...
I ordered this book thinking it was a "how to" on customizing a Ruger 10/22 not a book on how to make your .22 caliber rifle into a para-military weapon. What I needed was text/diagrams/pictures describing how to do trigger work, add magazine releases, etc. What I ended up with was a book on turning a very nice rifle into a bizarre tactical nightmare! Not my cup of tea. Better luck next time. If this is your "thing" then have at it, but for me, customizing my 10/22 to increase performance and ease of use far outweighs my need of a tricked out "funny-gun" that I'd get laughed off the range with.
Suggested add-ons are too expensive for the Ruger 10/22 and some of the companies don't make the upgrades. They are out of business. Might as well buy the rifle already built or a real AR-15.
