I checked this book out from the local library. Originally, I had picked it out to read with an older friend that loves history. I ended up reading some of this book to our son too. This history appeals to all ages.

It's always interesting to hear about individual/ personal life experiences. This book is full of first-hand accounts of different events and in different time periods. The book also covers people from many different types of backgrounds. The personal stories are really fascinating and give you a good idea of what life was like for these people, day-to-day.

Reading the stories really shows the simple things that meant a lot to people in their day. The book also shows some of the challenges we don't really see much of today that people widely experienced long ago. i.e. polio and fevers impacted whole families in a very short time....several generations ago.
