Why this book?

I know how it feels to have spent the entire summer preparing for a course and then walking into the classroom for the first time to face your students. Or preparing a presentation to then look out into a sea of expectant faces in the auditorium. Those first few seconds are eternal.

There exist a myriad of books on methodological, psychological and didactic theory, but none of them clearly and directly explains exactly how to face up to the challenges of the everyday classroom.

Based on past experiences and mistakes made, this book will give you your key steps so that you give class with no unease whatsoever, allowing you to connect with your students.

What are you going to read?

In this book you will find many key points which will help turn you into that great teacher every student wishes to have.

There are no pedagogical theories or proposed speculative methodologies to be found here. I am going to show you, in the most practical of ways, exactly what to do so that when you are asked to teach your first classes, you will do your job fabulously from the word go.

In the six chapters that make up this book, you will see how to rid yourself of the nerves that make you freeze when faced with your students, how to organise content so that your students can easily understand it, how to make use of new technologies, how to prepare each and every one of the elements in the classroom, what to do when you walk in to class and which tools are great for grabbing (and keeping!) your students’ attention.

With practical exercises so that you can put into practice all that you read, this book will help you structure your presentations and astonish your students. If you are motivated and up for the task, here you will find some top tips to make yourself a top teacher.

How it is structured:

PART I THE TEACHER
(Self-awareness, self-esteem, how to deal with nerves...)

PART II: THE CONTENT
(Setting goals and organising material)

PART III: HOW TO PRESENT IT
(Design and tools)

Part IV PREPARE YOURSELF
(Rehearsing, training, dealing with questions...)

PART V IN THE CLASSROOM
(First impressions, how to present...)

PART VI THE STUDENT
(Adapting yourself to the students and getting their attention)
