Additional Information

THE ADVENTURE OF THE NOTABLE BACHELORETTE: A snobbish and obnoxious nobleman enters 221B Baker Street demanding the help of Sherlock Holmes in finding his much younger wife – a beautiful and spirited American from the West. Three days later the wife is accused of a vile crime. Now she comes to Sherlock Holmes seeking his help to prove her innocence so she can avoid the gallows. Neither noble husband nor wife have been playing by the rules of Victorian moral behavior. So who did it? The wife? The mistress? The younger brother? Someone unknown? Fans of Sherlock Holmes will enjoy this mystery, set in London during the last years of the nineteenth century, and written in the same voice as the beloved stories of the original canon. This new mystery was inspired by the original Sherlock Holmes story, The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor. The original Sherlock Holmes story that inspired this one is appended to the paperback edition of this book.

Craig Stephen Copland’s newest book, The Adventure of the Notable Bachelorette is a fun read, full of intrigue, deception and mystery. Sherlock Holmes was ready to chase pompous Lord St. Simon out of his office until the pretentious English lord convinces him that his beautiful American wife has been kidnapped. Never one to ignore a challenge, Holmes and Dr. Watson begin their search only to be met by an odd turn of events when newly accused Lady St. Simon seeks their help instead. Despite the scandalous reputations of both the lord and lady, Holmes feels compelled to solve this mystery. I love the timeframe and setting of Victorian England, and the familiar characters of Sherlock Holmes classics. Mr. Copland has once again kept my attention throughout this book.
I’m a fan of Craig Stephen Copland, and I’m always excited to read his newest Sherlock Holmes mystery. As with the previous novels in the series, A New Sherlock Holmes Mystery, Copland remains true to the character of Sherlock Holmes and his many quirks, and the setting of Victorian London. “The Adventure of the Notable Bachelorette”, which is similar to the original, follows Sherlock as he solves the mystery of the missing American wife, but as with all of Copland’s mysteries the twist is the victim soon becomes the accused!
I highly recommend “The Mystery of the Notable Bachelorette” and the other novels in this series.

The Adventure of the Notable Bachelorette starts off with the introduction of a peculiar English noble named Lord Robert St. Simon, a man who many consider to be a charlatan, and a spoiled apple who had fallen far from his family tree. After Watson informs Sherlock that the wife of this titled twit had gone missing, Sherlock pays it no mind, dismissing is at stuff of the gossip columns, and most likely just another case of a noble rich woman running off to have an affair with another man. I thought Sherlock’s cynical perspective on London’s elite made for some good humor early in the story , but when Lord St. Simon shows up at Sherlock’s doorstep, we soon learn that there is a serious case in the making.

Of all the Copland Sherlock tales that I read, this one is the most amazing, because Sherlock Holmes’ ingenuity in this novella is most impressive. Craig Stephen Copland creates a Sherlock Holmes... Read more
