With a Phd in history and a special expertise in Cleopatra, Diana Bailey leaves London and her husband Trevor to consult on a film in Rome--and that film just happens to be a very real film, the magnificent Cleopatra, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton (and their passionate affair). Trevor hates to see her leave, but Diana yearns for a bit of excitement before settling into years of motherhood. In Rome, she quickly finds that all is not as it seems.

History, romance, and murder meld into a fast-paced story set against a glamorous Hollywood film backdrop. Set in the 1960s, Gill Paul brings to life the fashions, scenery, and customs of the era with an expert eye. The Affair is a passionate, well-told story set in a glamourous period and place. Five-stars for this engaging read!
Was this a novel or did this stuff really happen? And who was the observer, witness, etc.? Was the Englishwoman really jailed for murder or was that fiction. I was very confused. Not worth the time spent reading such drivel.
This was the most remarkably boring I've read in a long time. It should have ended about halfway thru. Very disappointing!
