The (Almost) Last of the Red Hot Polio People? is the true story of my life before, during and after being ravaged by polio in 1955 at age three. However, this is not a book about disability. It is not a book about the brave young girl overcoming great obstacles and being inspirational. No. We all overcome obstacles every day of our lives. More than a blow by blow account, this book discusses several pivotal events in my life from a spiritual, educational and philosophical angle. There are accounts of the iron lung, of discrimination and of extreme joy and profound sadness. These stories are accompanied with humor, love and with an understanding of those connections we all make throughout our lives. Those connections and events that help us become who and what we are.
