It's easy to identify rage in people who lose their temper at traffic jams, unruly children, unresponsive coworkers, and unrealistic bosses. But we may not recognize more subtle manifestations of anger, such as being uncomfortable with loose ends, acting impatiently, or being overly critical. That is anger, too. And, as is so often the case, angry folks don't seem to realize that the behavior causing them problems at home or at work actually stems from unrecognized and unresolved pain and emotional injuries from the past. Is all this negative emotion inevitable, or are there choices about how to respond, choices that can improve personal relationships as well as emotional health?

Getting to the bottom of your anger issues is possible with this book's information. Presented in a straight-forward, readable manner, the book's contents move the reader from understanding that anger is a natural human emotion and one that is acceptable to have and express to an understanding of how we can change our anger "habits." Many of us "anger junkies" were never taught HOW to manage our anger, nor were we told that anger is an acceptable feeling, so we tend to express it in all the wrong ways--by either turning on ourselves, our loved-ones, or others. Most often we express anger in the ways it was expressed or levied upon us at vulnerable times of our development when we didn't have a choice but to endure.
The author presents scenarios from his own practice (with names changed) to help the reader to comprehend how he has helped others and the ways we manage anger is a choice. He also emphasizes that old patterns of anger-related behavior that are destructive...
I will be brief in my comments. This book successfully explores the many types of anger that, when left unchecked, can be very self-limiting in terms of enjoying a happy life. The book is written in very clear language with excellent clinical examples. Not all anger is of the ever-the-top, domestic violence variety that most people tend to think of. Depression and anger are also interrelated, so anger can manifest itself in many ways...This is a very well written, exceptional look at anger, and how it can hamper the productive and happy lifestyles of men and women alike. The techniques explained have already helped me manage my own specific type of anger issues, which had been causing me some relationship problems. If you think you or someone you love has an anger related problem, please read this book. Accentuate the positive! Highly recommended.
This book provided a great detailed review of what "anger" really is, and how it can be at the root of many emotional and relational issues we face (whether we are conscious of it or not). It was very helpful in understanding why we feel anger and how it can be responded to in both good and bad ways. Accepting the fact that while the feeling of anger isn't a choice, how we respond to it is, can be a very profound realization for us all. While reading this book I found myself contemplating the root causes of many struggles with finding balance in my life, and realizing that many were from anger either directly or indirectly. I would recommend this book to anyone seeking a greater understanding of one of the most complicated and impactful emotions in our lives, anger.
