iPhoneography gallery: A stunning showcase of works by notable iPhoneographers
Always on, always at hand, and inconspicuously deployed, today's smartphones empower us to record the world in ever newer and more personal ways. By leveraging the photo-editing applications found on the iPhone, professional and amateur photographers alike are able to create not only editorial imagery, but also creative art.
"Nicki Fitz-Gerald and Bob Weil, at iPhoneographyCentral.com, have built a community dedicated to the burgeoning collaboration between art and technology that is iPhoneography. Their site, and now this book, offer extensive, in-depth tutorials both for budding iPhoneographers looking to advance their craft, and professionals attempting to harness a new toolkit in service of their vision.
What they bring to the table is their belief that 'revealing the man behind the curtain' does not diminish the teacher. Technique does not the artist make, but it does enable the newcomer to find his or her own voice. With thousands of apps available and more flooding the market daily, every new iPhoneographer wonders, What apps should I use? The answer to that question is so complex, with so many variables, that an illustrated tutorial such as this becomes an invaluable tool. There is really nothing like it.
It does not offer the advice of a single artist or showcase images from a small artistic segment. Indeed, it offers up stories, knowledge, tips, and secrets from many of the key players in the formation of this movement, showcasing more than 40 artists and tutorials and 80 pages of iPhonic art."

The iPhone camera, who would ever imagine that after thought on a cell phone, could produce amazing art. The Art of iPhone Photography not only dispels that myth, it then goes on to describe the techniques used to create that art. It is an impressive book.
Where to start? For the photography alone, as a coffee table book, this book is worth the purchase price. Never mind this is one of most intense photography books I have ever read. The Art of iPhone Photography does something I have never seen in any art form, it describes in illustarted step by step detail how the masters created an incredible image.
In a rare twist for photography books, the writing is perfection. The authors edited this book down to perfection.
The first step in creating this book was to find excellent photography. The authors have found work that ranges from masterpieces to good images. Because this is a compilation of 45 different photographers, there are styles I loved and...
Let me say upfront that I'm not a cell phone photographer - I use the SLR & Photoshop method. But a number of my friends are achieving amazing results on a cell phone so I read this book to see what it is all about. I was impressed. The book consists of 45 images taken & processed on an iPhone with detailed instructions on the often complex process & apps used. All images are very good & show a great deal of creativity. It's amazing what they accomplish on a phone. This book is not for the casual vacation shooter - it's for more serious photographers who are interested in making art. While all images were taken & processed on an iPhone, they say that most of the nearly 100 apps used are available on Android phones. I don't think I'll be giving up my SLR anytime soon, but this book opens the door to a whole new school of creative photography.
I liked this book so much that I returned my Kindle version and ordered a book book so I could flip pages, turn down pages, ponder, savor, try out, underline, make notes, etc. This is the perfect book for learning how to work with your photographs on the iPhone. Other books are very helpful and worth having, i.e. Dan Burkholder, but they only tell you about how that person works with apps. This book tells you how MANY photographers work on their photographs. The photos cover a wide range. To me, some are brilliant and some just good and interesting, but the instructions are detailed and, sometimes, the photographer gives you instructions on using a particular app, not just how it was used in the photo but how to use it generally. This is definitely the best book out on how to work with the iPhone (and I didn't get a review copy) and I have several other books.
