If you look in the dictionary, the role of museum curator will be defined in a line or two, perhaps as the person who takes care of a collection of artefacts, and who presents the artefacts to the public via exhibitions, events and so on. However a curatorâ€™s role, depending on the type of museum in which they are working, can be very varied and wide-ranging.

In this book, the author wants to introduce people to the many possible facets of life as a curator. One minute the curator will be doing research, the next they will be putting together an exhibition, the next they will be trying to think of new ways to engage visitors to the museum. Then there are other roles like ensuring the proper conservation of museum artefacts, staff training, the organisation of tours or talks, and perhaps even the writing of a book about the collection.

A career as a curator is a challenging one, and one involving a lot of responsibility. However, it is also potentially a very interesting career, and one that can be deeply satisfying.
