When a dangerous blizzard forced Kayla Evans and her family to find refuge, no one knew what the consequences would be. The rich suburbanites found themselves in Amish country dealing with the absence of electricity and modern conveniences.
Kayla found herself attracted to David, the handsome blond teenager and member of the Amish family they took refuge with. The feeling appeared mutual. After letters and visits back to the Amish family homestead, the young couple realized conflict was ahead for them. Could there ever be a meaningful relationship between them, beyond friendship?
David also felt a calling to attend college. Still in his rumschpringe years, he could decide to leave the familiar community and become part of the English world. But could he leave everything familiar behind him for the unknown?

The Blizzard, written by June Bryan Belfie, is the introduction book of her lastest series The King Family of Lancaster County. Once again the author has offered a new twist with the Amish and romance and came up with a wonderful story.
As the story starts the Evans family are on their way for a brief stay with grandparents to celebrate their 50th anniversary when the weather suddenly takes a turn for the worst and developes into a full fledge blizzard. When the police send the Evans off the highway they decide to take back roads and end up in a ditch. They were rescued by an Amish family, the Kings, and welcomed into their house for a prolonged stay until plows can dig them out. When Kayla Evans meets David King she is instantly infatuated with him. The Evans are a very wealthy family will they beable to deal with the way the Kings live? Will they turn up their nose and be snotty? Will all the children involved beable to bridge the gap between them and enjoy the...
What a page turner! Although Kayla's family was financially well off, they lacked the one thing money can't buy....make that two.....happiness and love. They are so unhappy and not nice to each other. They are also self-absorbed. Is that what having money does to people? It wouldnt hurt Jenny to find something meaningful to do with her life. She isnt a good role model for her kids. Thankfully Kayla's family found the Amish family. Too bad they didnt put to use what they observed during that stay.
On the other hand, though from two different worlds Kayla and David are so drawn to each other, it's incredible. I truly hope they can be together. I can't wait to read book two.
I really enjoyed reading this book but it left me in a cliffhanger cannot wait to read Book 2 of this series cannot wait to see what happen with David and Kayla but it shows how two people from very different backgrounds in away are not that different at all.
