The Circle Continues: Women Respond to the "Circle of Stones"

For over ten years, women have been responding in extraordinary ways to the provocative questions in Judith Duerk's best-selling book Circle of Stones: "How might your life have been different if, through every stage of your life ... birth, puberty, adulthood, old age ... you had been received, affirmed, sustained by a 'circle' of older, wiser women?" Women were invited to share-in reflections, essays, poems, and art-how the support of women has changed their lives. We were not prepared for the stunning, haunting, powerful submissions we received from women around the world. From Northern Ireland to Switzerland, from Bermuda to Great Britain, from Canada to Hawaii, from women born in India to women living in New York City, their moving portrayals arrived by mail, fax, e-mail, and phone calls. From these respondents around the world, Judith Duerk has selected sixty works, presented in six sections, representing the depth and beauty of a woman's journey: My Mother, My Grandmother ... My Sister, Aunts, and Cousins; Woman to Woman: Individual Women Who Made a Difference; Women's Circles; Women's Wisdom, Women's Vision; My Journey as a Woman; and Women's Generativity.
