The Darcy Orphans: A Pride and Prejudice Vagary

When Jane Austin wrote Pride and Prejudice Mr. Darcy was aloof and proud. Elizabeth Bennet was portrayed as being wise but not as percipient as she believed she was. However, what if Mrs. Bennet had succumbed at an age when her youngest was but six months old. How would that change the way the children were raised and how would it change their behaviors and relationships with each other? Would Mr. Bennet remain a recluse in his study? And what if Mr. Darcy was saddled with three orphans and was in need of a sensible wife to help raise? Would he settle for a society wife or one with more common sense and someone with experience with younger children?
