Additional Information

IMAGINE AN ANCIENT, universal and Divinely-conceived plan that is binding together the world’s great religions, unfolding over time and guiding humanity toward an ultimate, meaningful purpose. Such a Divine plan exists. All creation is the classroom. And Divine Educators have presented this soul-saving and civilization-advancing curriculum to all of humanity. The Divine curriculum is progressive and never-ending because the knowledge and grace of God cannot be exhausted. The six-volume Divine Curriculum series tells the surprising 4,000-year story of how the great Divine Educators were sent by God from the earliest times to educate humanity—and yet, according to author Edward Price, this sweeping story has really just begun.

There are a number of good introductory books to the Bahá'í Faith. What Ed Price has done is much more, even though this first volume does provide some of the major Bahá'í perspectives about major theological and ontological questions--the essential reality of the human being, the nature of the Creator, and, most importantly, insight into the Creator's methodology in fashioning a spiritual planetary society over time. This is the heart of what we can envision the remainder of these volumes doing--examining in detail what the Bahá'í Faith refers to as Progressive Revelation and what Price creatively and correctly alludes to as God's "curriculum" for the human race on planet Earth.

The first volume approaches this lofty subject with bit-size chunks written in a style that varies nicely from the personal and familiar to the scholarly-expository. In this sense, the work is quite digestible, never dull, and a joy to read; it... Read more
This first volume of The Divine Curriculum, titled Divine Design, is really quite a phenomenal bit of work. The main idea is quite simple: all of the Messengers of God are part of a divine plan to educate humanity. By exploring the source documents, i.e. the scriptures of the Teachers in the Abrahamic line, Price shows that the supposed contradictions that people see between religions are nothing more than human created fantasies. Even the best known of these sorts of conflicts are shown to have grown out of misunderstandings or even perversity. It's a tour de force explanation and exposition.

I'm not much of one for reading theology, so it was challenging for me to make it through this lengthy treatise. And the idea of reading another five volumes absolutely terrifies me. But there's so much good content here, it was worth the struggle. I would have been happier to see more gender-neutral or gender-even language such as "he or she" or sometimes "she" and... Read more
I had just completed 'Abdu'l-Bahá's 'The Secret of Divine Civilization' and was reading Bahá'u'lláh's 'The Book of Certitude' when I decided to take on 'The Divine Curriculum' last month. Price's book supplemented these two Writings well and it gave me a more holistic understanding of what has been going on since recorded history in terms of world religion and the Abrahamic lineage. This book deserves a place near great works like Sagan's 'Cosmos', which have developed our understanding of who we are.

'The Divine Curriculum' is an honest invite: to come and see. There are numerous references, illustrations, and tables to set out some of the misunderstandings that have contributed to unnecessary competition between religious communities in the past. Having known Edward for some years now the only thing I missed is the actual dialogue and a cup of tea. To me, our conversations will always beat books but in his book there is something one can share with a... Read more
