Graham Johnson, the guiding spirit behind Hyperion's epic complete edition of Schubert songs, has shown excellent judgment in choosing his singers and developing his programs around them. Here we have the late Lucia Popp singing a selection of songs to texts by a variety of poets, including Collin, Jacobi, Mayhofer, and above all, Claudius, whose Ode to a Nightengale became one of Schubert's most delightful short lyrics.
