The remarkable story of the architecture and interior design of America’s most famous country inn and restaurant. The transformation of the internationally acclaimed Inn at Little Washington—from a rural garage into a sumptuous country house hotel—reads like an enchanted fairy tale. Legendary chef and owner Patrick O’Connell tells the story of how this property was reimagined with a team of skilled designers and architects. The inn, which opened in 1978, is considered a masterpiece in American hotel and restaurant design and has expanded to include not only the original main building, but an entire village of cottages, guesthouses, and gardens. British interior designer Joyce Conwy Evans collaborated with O’Connell in creating the sensational English-style ambience. Lavishly photographed and enhanced by Conwy Evans’s watercolor renderings, this gorgeous book features luxurious guest rooms, stunning bathrooms, exquisite tabletop vignettes, floral arrangements, and displays of art, which will inspire every home decorator.

Having visited and eaten at the Inn many times, this lovely coffee table book is a reminder of happy and festive moments. Every aspect of the Inn has been well curated as shown in the many photographs. And the gardens are just as delightful as the interiors. The only thing missing is a record of the stellar staff and service.
Gorgeous Book. I have quite a library of the best Decorating / Design books from the best in the business that are all beautiful pictorials. But this is my first one that tells a fascinating story at the same time. We have not been able to visit the Inn yet, but hope to. My gorgeous autistic son and I do not fly, so we generally only go places within 10hours, which ILW is just a few hours beyond. But, I think we're going to have to make this work regardless.
Another lovely book about a place hard to surpass. Think Patrick O'Connell has shared his love again for his Virginia home and passion for detail.
Have recollection of a late fall weekend there. Trip started in Pinehurst, N.C. and it was snowing. The trip to Washington, Virginia was nonstop snow. We had an amazing dinner, late night brandy and awoke the next morning to continuing snow. Just a fairytale of a weekend.
