Mountain climbing in an exciting story of endurance and triumph. Spencer Tracy is excellent although much too old to be Robert Wagner's brother.
Films concentrates on the good and the evil. Wagner is poor and hates his life as a small-town gigolo. A plane crash in the mountains near a small
Swiss village propels Wagner to attempt a climb of the deadly mountain to rob the dead passengers. Tracy reluctantly joins his younger brother in the climb only to protect him. Surprisingly, they climb the mountain in extremely bad weather and find the fallen plane. However, one lone female
passenger is still alive! Tracy wants to try to save her. Wagner for obvious reasons does not! In the ordeal, Wagner is lost and tacy does save the
dying woman. Touching and humane. Unusual film in many respects. Climbing sequences are spectacular. Tense and unnerving. But very well-worth viewing! Color adds to the scenery and it is a sight to behold! Don't pass this one up!
After the stunning documentary "Touching the Void" (2004), we might forget that there were several fine films of this sort made in the 20th century, with this being one. The two stars, Robert Wagner and Spencer Tracy, play disagreeable brothers in a high town ensconced in the Alps who nonetheless have a combined interest in climbing a neighbouring mountain once they learn an airliner has crashed up in its heights. This is another typically well done Dmytryk suspense movie filled with character development. A no miss for lovers of the director, or of mountaineering films. Recommended.
In the twilight of his career, Spencer Tracy delivers a great performance as an aging mountain climber that is haunted by a failed mountain climbing event where his companions died. His brother, a perennial malcontent, is played by a young Robert Wagner who is looking for an excuse to leave his home and attain quick enrichment.

A plane crashes on top of the mountain, Robert Wagner decides that he wants to climb the mountain to rob and loot the remains of the plane. The brothers quarrel. An investigating expedition fails. In order to protect his stupid brother, Tracy decides to help his brother on his foolish mission. When they reach the plane, they find a surprse and a new dilemma.

The blu-ray recording does justice to this beautiful alpine adventure. I remember seeing this movie as a child and was riveted by the mountain climbing and beauty of the adventure. I highly recommend this disk for young viewers to learn about the ethics of life and self sacrifice for a... Read more
