Sequel to Tell Me It’s Real

Do you believe in love at first sight?

Sanford Stewart sure doesn't. In fact, he pretty much believes in the exact opposite, thanks to the Homo Jock King. It seems Darren Mayne lives for nothing more than to create chaos in Sandy’s perfectly ordered life, just for the hell of it. Sandy despises him, and nothing will ever change his mind.

Or so he tells himself.

It's not until the owner of Jack It―the club where Sandy performs as drag queen Helena Handbasket―comes to him with a desperate proposition that Sandy realizes he might have to put his feelings about Darren aside. Because Jack It will close unless someone can convince Andrew Taylor, the mayor of Tucson, to keep it open.

Someone like Darren, the mayor’s illegitimate son.

The foolproof plan is this: seduce Darren and push him to convince his father to renew Jack It’s contract with the city.

Simple, right?

I'm so in love with every single person in the book, it's sickening.
I laughed and cried through the whole thing. There is so much good, I don't think I can properly separate just one thing to quote or one part that was better than the other, I loved the whole thing in it's entirety.
Mike; the owner of Jack It where Sandy slays drag shows, is scheming to get Darren and Sandy to stop beating around the bush, so in order to save Jack It from the evils of Andrew Taylor, he comes up with the perfect plan. Sandy needs to seduce Darren, which come on, why not?

I've gotta say that I was really hurt for Sandy in the reason why he had hard feelings towards Darren, I would have too, I don't understand why he was surprised by that or why he didn't just apologize sooner or something. It all worked out in the end but still...
My heart also broke for Charlie, I'm glad he had the family he did with everyone, he deserved it.

I loved seeing Paul and Vince, Vince... Read more

Note the five-star rating. I admit that TJ Klune’s books just do something to me. So, in spite of flaws, that I admit exist, I can’t lower my love for his writing. There is such creativity, such flamboyant use of words and images, such expert telegraphing of emotions. The Queen and the Homo Jock King is technically the sequel to Tell Me It’s Real, but it really isn’t necessary to have read that book. Here is a paragraph lifted from my own comments on the earlier book: “’Tell Me It’s Real’ offers the expected (and, I suspect, from his fans, looked-for) overthinking with the additional ingredients of marvelously fast pacing and unexpected, offbeat humor. I guess it’s easier to embrace frustrating characters when they make you laugh.” Ok, so ditto for this book.

The Queen of the title is Sanford Stewart, mild-mannered,... Read more
This was another hysterical story from TJ Klune. It was full of well-developed characters, most of whom had appeared in Tell Me It's Real. From the bad-mouthing parrot, Johnny Depp who screams obscenities at Paul, to Nana as she throws crazy insight into the middle of the family gatherings, this story is chock-full of love and laughter. Once again, the author shows us that family is what you make of it, created by people who love you rather than just those who share genetic coding. There is just enough angst in this story to make it interesting, as we find out why Sandy seemingly hates Darren, and the effect that has had on his life.

This is a fast-paced story, with wonderful dialogue and well-described action. The Queen and the Homo Jock King is another crazy, wonderful story from the creative mind of TJ Klune. If you're already of fan of this author, you will adore this book. If this is your first experience with TJ Klune, I highly recommend starting with Tell Me It's... Read more
