Wyatt Earp was perhaps the most controversial of all famous lawmen in The Wild West. He was unscrupulous in his efforts, often skirting the law. He broke the law as often as he followed the law. Wyatt always wanted to be Sheriff, but never got a title beyond that of Deputy Sheriff.
Still, he made his mark in the west, and lived to a ripe old age along with his ex-prostitute wife, Josie. His ashes are in Josie's family cemetery in Colma, California.
