It is difficult to say very much without giving too much away. It is best to avoid reviews before reading a book. Instead rely on the author's reputation and a book's star rating when choosing a book. Then once you have read the book read the details of reviews.

That said, this has been an exciting and well-written series. Generally, I am not particularly fond of a post-apocalyptic theme as it is depressing and seems to hit too close to home these days. However, from the beginning this series provided a worthy protagonist to embrace and through which we navigate the treacherous new conditions. I have no military experience however the author seems to have adequate knowledge to present military information that feels authentic. This element has provided gratifying substance to this story. Of special note is how this author successfully writes from different points of view. We experience this world through survivors, heroes, villains, adults, children, and victims... Read more
Is this really farewell to Captain Lee Harden?? I have enjoyed the whole series and hate to say good-bye. One of the greatest thing about these books is the fast pace of the story. When I start reading I just have to keep going along with the relentless pace of the story. No conclusion to a series will please everyone, but It felt fitting to me. I would love to see another novel (or two) about how the United States might come back together after this. Would Briggs ever give up his control and rejoin the southeastern group??? Will some type of communication between the factions be developed?? Maybe D J Molles will give us more. I would look forward to it, but thanks for the great story and the character of Captain Harden!
While I said I would likely not read this book, I'd already invested so much time in the series I felt I should at least slog through to the end. Had I known Molles had no intention of providing an actual "ending" I would have saved the money and bought three other reasonably priced eBooks.

Like the previous book, this one was jammed full of naval gazing by almost every character the POV shifted to. To be stuck so deep in Lee's head this far into the series made for boring, boring reading and it definitely felt like more filler to pad out what was, essentially, a short story. So many tangential storylines just left hanging and forgotten, major plot lines left with no resolution, a main character that devolved into a mess that swung wildly between whiny introspection to pure psychopathy... I can wrap it up with the phrase, "What a letdown." I did appreciate that at least LaRouche redeemed himself at the end after that character had also been reduced to being... Read more
