Let the chapter-by-chapter guide in this sidekick help you explore the thought-provoking issues raised in The Rosie Project. You'll also find in-depth character analyses and a breakdown of key symbols. A romance novel full of quirky characters and plenty of humor, Graeme Simsion's The Rosie Project begins when a brilliant but socially inept geneticist decides to forgo dating in favor of using a scientific approach to finding a life partner. Living by a strict schedule from which he never deviates, Don Tillman has never had a second date with a woman. This gives rise to the Wife Project, a lengthy questionnaire he believes can eliminate unsuitable candidates and find someone with whom he can finally settle down. Enter Rosie, a wholly unsuitable candidate who isn't interested in the project at all. Instead, she wants his help in discovering the identity of her biological father.

Graeme Simsion beautifully crafts the tale of a man struggling with undiagnosed Asperger's syndrome, trying to fit in. Despite Don and Rosie's seeming incompatibility, Don finds himself drawn to her. He becomes willing to deviate from his schedule and act impulsively. Rosie is clearly interested in Don despite his missteps. Will Don be able to help Rosie find her father? Will they both be able to overcome their issues to take the next step in their relationship? Despite a few missteps, The Rosie Project is a light, humorous tale loaded with believable characters that will appeal to many readers.

I read the Rosie Project last year and it was such a fun novel about how all the scientific research in the world cannot always determine who you will fall in love with. When I saw that they made a Side Kick for this book, I had to get it and revisit the book and see what the Side Kick author had to say. The chapter analyses pointed out a lot more than I noticed while reading the book. The book club discussion questions gave me some good fuel for thought, although I kind of felt the author’s answer to question #2 was a bit of a cop out. Yes, the questionnaire objectifies women. There’s no way to really sugar coat that as the Side Kick author tried to do, although I appreciate his loyalty towards Don, who was a fun and lovable character that deserves the protection.
I expected more questions and more depth in those provided, to use in our book club discussion. A 6th grader could have written this.
As someone who has a family member with Asperger's syndrome, I was curious to read The Rosie Project by author Graeme Simsion. I loved the book so much that I decided to use The Rosie Project book and sidekick in my weekly reading group. The sidekick enlightened all of us when it came to understanding the book's two main characters. I loved how the setting section of the sidekick details what the author was thinking when writing the book.
