Additional Information

In their first adult novel, authors Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan take on a story of romance and rivalries inspired by today's most talked-about royal couple: Will and Kate.

"If I'm Cinderella today, I dread who they'll think I am tomorrow. I guess it depends on what I do next."

American Rebecca Porter was never one for fairy-tales. Her twin sister Lacey was always the romantic, the one who daydreamed of being a princess. But it's adventure-seeking Bex who goes to Oxford and meets dreamy Nick across the hall - and thus Bex who accidentally finds herself in love with the eventual heir to the British throne. Nick is everything she could have imagined, but Prince Nicholas has unimaginable baggage: grasping friends, a thorny family, hysterical tabloids tracking his every move, and a public that expected its future king to marry a native. On the eve of the most talked-about wedding of the century, Bex reflects on what she's sacrificed for love -- and exactly whose heart she may yet have to break.

Let me first say this was a very cute book and a fast read. I can't say I loved this book, but it was a fun way to spend an afternoon. Obviously this is a "cinderella" or "Will and Kate" type novel, which is fine.Nick seemed like a nice guy, but he kind of fell flat and was fairly one dimensional in this book. He was the prince, and well he didn't seem to have much more to him than that. Bex on the other hand was not one dimensional but there was still something missing. I do appreciate how the author gave Bex flaws, and she wasn't a typical damsel in distress. She slept around, she cursed and drank and basically wasn't what you would expect the prince to fall for. That was nice, but at the same time she got a bit whiny and the relationship between her and her sister annoyed the s*** out of me. I really don't like martyrs, and too often in her relationship with Lacey that is what I felt she was trying to become. I kind of got that impression in her relationship with Nick at times too... I wanted SOoooo badly to like this book. I love the GFY website and the authors were so excited and proud about the book's publication. Alas, it fell far short of the mark for me. Was it supposed to be a satire or spoof of Prince William and Kate Middleton? It also reminded me of the E! series, "The Royals." I also thought perhaps I was too old because the formulation of the story seemed to be directed towards young girls who like fairy tale romances. I found the main character, Bex, to be completely unlikeable and the characters very stereotypical (Prince Harry, Pippa Middleton, Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and a non-existent, but living -- Princess Diana.) Speaking of characters, there were WAY too many. Also, lots of lengthy explanations of British-isms that were boring and took up a lot of pages. Sorry, but I don't think I can wade my way through the rest of it. BTW, it's a L-O-N-G book -- surpassing 400 pages. I say "badly played" and fug on this one. Very... Read more
I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would! I'd been eyeing this title for quite some time, but finally decided to buy after reading the sample and seeing the price drop below the magic $10 line. I wouldn't call myself a major royals-watcher, but I do follow along with the British monarchy - you can definitely match up "who's who" in this book to their real-life counterparts. My favorite character was Freddie (aka Prince Harry). He was a fun mix of wild antics and a guy who cares about his family and friends. My least favorite character was Lacey (aka Pippa, who I actually like in real life) - I found myself thinking on several occasions "oh come on, pull yourself together Lacey!"

This is a lighthearted story that will pull you in and keep you engaged throughout. Worth a read.
