Additional Information

Seattle, 1941. Grace Vandenberg, 21, is having a bad day. Minutes after Pearl Harbor is attacked, she learns that her boyfriend is a time traveler from 2000 who has abandoned her for a future he insists they cannot share. Determined to save their love, she follows him into the new century. But just when happiness is within her grasp, she accidentally enters a second time portal and exits in 1918. Distraught and heartbroken, Grace starts a new life in the age of Woodrow Wilson, silent movies, and the Spanish flu. She meets her parents as young, single adults and befriends a handsome, wounded Army captain just back from the war. In THE SHOW, the sequel to THE MINE, Grace finds love and friendship in the ashes of tragedy as she endures the trial of her life.

I have read all John Heldt’s Northwest Passage “Time Travel” stories. Rather than provide a synopsis on each and every one, I’m instead going to simply state my assessment of these novels as a whole and include it as a review on each one of the of the series.

Every story is about traveling into the past and setting the stage for the future. If you like time-travel, you’ll love this series. If I had to pick my favorite, for now I think “The Journey” would be it, but that’s just me.

Every story is a stand-alone novel. Occasionally there will be a subtle reference to one of the other novels, but that too is sufficiently explained to make it germane to the current story without requiring one to read any of the other stories.

Because every story is stand-alone, they... Read more
I really loved "The Mine" so jumped right in to this sequel. At first I was a bit skeptical as it starts off slow and feeling repetitive, but if you stick with it there's a payoff. This is another winner; although I don't feel it deserves the 5 stars that I gave to "The Mine," I'd like to give it 4.5 stars which isn't an option -- so I'm rounding up in appreciation of self-published/low-cost Kindle authors who do a really outstanding job of writing *and* editing their work such that the end result feels like something that could easily be printed by a major publishing house.

PS: I don't write plot synopsis reviews. This isn't a book report and why would you want to spend time reading long reviews and spoilers instead of the book itself? :-)
The Show by John A. Heldt
This novel is about the time travelers, Grace and Joel.
They have become separated in time as Grace searches for and finds the clues to bring her back to him. Many of the same people in the series make an appearance in this book.
Easy to keep track of who is who. Really liked the clues she remembered him speaking of and how it all plays a part at the show they see together.
She then tracks down others and thinks she will never get back to his time when she is at the show and the same show will be playing, not the one on the billboard. She may have another chance but it depends on colors.
What a mystery this one was to solve, right up to the very end. Good tale. Very detailed descriptions of things used in each of the time frames.
Wished I had read this series in the order but still a really good read.
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
