Additional Information

"The writing style is tight, the phrases are masculine and do not come across as flowery"

"a great addition to the genre of fantasy"

The people of An Innis have fallen on hard times. Vengeful thieves, rumored to be men returned from death, have brought the island to its knees. Using a fleet of captured ships, they systematically plunder everything that enters or attempts to leave the coastal waters that surround the island.

The Sigil Blade, the first book of the Archon Sigil Trilogy, tells the story of Edryd, a man who is trying to reinvent himself and conceal the truth about his past. His unexplained arrival as a stranger upon the island will change the course of its history and set in motion events that will ultimately shape the future of an entire world. He will duel with Aed Seoras, a master shaper who seeks to use and control him, and battle with immortal draugar and their human thralls, as he struggles with dark powers over which he has no control. He must learn to shape the darkness around him if he wants to avoid a destiny which holds the promise of endless bloodshed and destruction. The tool he will need to do this… is an ancient weapon of power.

Two decades ago I fell in love with fantasy. My introduction to that world started with the Fellowship of the Ring. It was a Christmas present from my two brothers, and would forever remain my favorite book of all time. Since then it has been a hit but mostly miss process searching for a story that would captivate my imagination the way Tolkien’s stories had.

After two decades of searching, I found a few treasures along the way. Thanks to the likes of Ursula K Le Guin and Lloyd Alexander, the wonder of my youth found new fuel to feed my particular appetite, but the pickings have been mostly slim.

I am stunned. I am awestruck. I didn’t believe a modern writer could ever find that ethereal stuff that true epic fantasy is made of ever again, but here it is, and a new release no less. I consumed this novel so quickly that I am left to wait breathlessly for the next installment. The story starts simply, but gives every hint of the kind of epic depth... Read more
As a lifelong fan of the Fantasy genre, I had a great time reading this book! The story is different and kept me engage for the entire book which is usually no easy feat. I really enjoyed the way he dealt with magic in the book and the character's journey to finding that he is more important than he originally thought. Even the way the magic mentor character is portrayed keeps you on your toes the entire time.

You can tell the author spent a lot of time researching and honing all of his characters, and that is always refreshing to read about. You will not be disapointed reading this novel and getting sucked in to the story. I cannot wait for the next 2 books to come out!

If you like David Eddings, Tolkien, Terry Brooks, The Chaos Knight Trilogy, and Fantasy books in general you will really enjoy reading this novel.
A little too much self pity and reluctance of the hero for my taste. At some point in the book I expected him to be beyond it, but still leaving his sword behind at the end of the last battle. My thought is the author does not really want the hero just to be drawn into things but to be something of a free agent.

In the moments where our hero wasn't running, hiding, or sticking his head in the sand it kept my attention. The world view is interesting and the characters other than the hero where fun to get to know.
