What draws us to these films about a cybernetic organism from the future sent back in time? Why is there a new proposed trilogy every few years?

This book looks at all five Terminator movies from a story standpoint - what makes them work (or not)? What are the techniques used to keep the characters and scenes exciting and involving? How about those secret story details you may not have noticed? Containing a detailed analysis of each of the five films so far, this book delves into the way these stories work... as well as a complete list of box office and critical statistics for each film.

This book is great for writers, directors, and just fans of the series.

It makes you feel bad about yourself! Most people watch a movie to be entertained. They want to laugh, cry, be scared, be tense, be relieved or just hear a good story. Screenwriters are not like most people. Screenwriters watch a movie and, while being entertained, they also think about the choices made by the screenwriter, the director, the actor, the cinematographer, etc. etc. They study a movie so they can learn how to write their own. The Terminator movies are some of my favorites and, since I've watched the first two a hundred gazillion times, I thought I caught all the nuances, all the story telling tricks, the set-ups and pay-offs, how and when information was revealed and all that stuff but then I read this great little book. It's like you're all proud when you recognize and articulate your evaluation and examination of a great movie and then Bill comes along and says "Did you catch this? Did you think of that? Did you even consider Cameron did that for this... Read more
This book basically walks scene by scene through all released Terminator movies with Martell's insightful commentary pointing out what worked or didn't work, and why.

I'd love to have a bestselling author do something similar with their novel. It is a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at these movies.
I don't usually do this but it gives you a very good insight on the whole series from a writers perspective. Like I didn't realize a plot flaw in "Salvation" Why in the heck are John Conner and his group flying machines if in "Rise..." The Terminator could control the machines? And it gives you insight how there could was a better script written for it until Christen Bail came on... and it sounded better and made more sense! The next book in this series is going to be "Mission Impossible" I think I'll skip but can't wait till he writes about "The Matrix" Very good for writers or if you're just a fan of the series and want some insight.
