This book, prepared by Texas criminal justice educators, is expressly designed for use in basic peace officer training academies and college or university law enforcement or criminal justice courses in the state of Texas. The authors intent in writing this text was to help the reader prepare for the Basic Peace Officer Licensing Examination. The contents have been drawn from a wide range of sources and are con-cisely presented in nontechnical language. Although there are many different and acceptable ways in which to enforce the law and to carry out the duties of a law enforcement offi-cer, those covered in this book reflect the approaches more commonly accepted in modern American police work. This new edition contains the most recent updates in the law, including numerous editions to the Texas Penal Code. The text materials have been enhanced to expand on the topics important to the beginning and in-service peace officer. Included with each copy of the book is a com-pact disk with interactive chapter tests that include dozens of test questions. However only through diligent study can the student acquire specific knowledge of the subjects presented. Students should use the answer keys to confirm their responses, which should be made after searching the text to find the answers. The format of this book makes it a valuable resource for reference, for review of some of the main concerns in police work, for use in police academies, as a college or university text, and for law enforcement officers independent study.
