Additional Information

Keep current with the truth: we are only as weak as our secrets; especially the ones we keep from ourselves. That;s the Third Rule of Ten. As the go-to private detective for a bevy of high-profile clients, our beloved ex-Buddhist monk, ex-Lapd officer, Tenzing Norbu, has finally found his stride. With his beautiful pathologist girlfriend, a healthy bank account, and a steady stream of clients, courtesy of middle-aged movie star Mac Gannon and rising political star Bets McMurtry's life is bursting with activity. But its not all joy and happiness. The death of his father and a growing abundance of secrets both personal and professional leave feeling an unexpected depth of sorrow and confusion. Even with the emotional turmoil, nothing can stop Ten from taking the case when McMurtry's housekeeper goes missing. The investigation leads him down a dangerous path littered with bodies, untraceable prescription drugs, and human organ trafficking. But nothing is as shocking as the realization that the mastermind behind it all is none other than Chaco Morales, a criminal that slipped through  hands once already. The Third Rule of Ten will have readers on the edges of their seats, as they learn, along with Ten, that there is a fine line between healthy privacy and unhealthy secrecy. Knowing the difference may just determine whether Ten will stop Chaco or lose himself.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?) 'What a long procession of dead bodies follows the wake of a single living person!' " (The Golden Age of Zen 145, 309 n.47)

And just as in the Golden Age of Zen, it can be said that a long procession of dead bodies follows in the wake of private -eye Tenzig "Ten" Norbu in Gay Hendricks and Tinker Lindsay's "The Third Rule of Ten". However, the trail of bodies that surrounds Ten is but one element that propels this story. The other element is Ten's internal meditations on the role he played in creating that long procession.

For those new to this series, Ten is the son of a young American woman and an older Tibetan monk who the mother met on a journey to Tibet. After the parents' divorce, Ten was raised by his father in a Buddhist monastery. Ten left the monastery, made his way to Los Angeles and the LAPD where he rose to the rank of detective before leaving the force to become a private-eye. As I read this synopsis I cannot help but think of how far-fetched... Read more
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?) I love this series. Tenzing Noru is an intriguing character. He is not only a former Buddhist monk, but a former homicide detective for the Los Angeles Police Department.

In this third novel, and with the help of his former LAPD partner, Ten accepts a job helping a rising politician find her missing housekeeper. Sounds innocent enough.

Nope. Because the reason she is missing is something you won't guess for many, many pages. There are more twists, turns, and layers than you can count, until Ten is grappling with deadly gang lords and worse. To tell more would be to give too much away. I think it is the most fast-paced and intense of the Ten books to date.

That being said, here are the Top Ten Things That Are Great About The Third Rule Of Ten: A Tenzing Norbu Mystery

10. As Randy Newman sang, "I love LA!" Clearly Tinker and Hendricks do, too, and they share that love as Ten travels the highways and byways of SoCal. The books are a... Read more
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?) I actually finished co-authors Hendricks and Lindsay's "The Third Rule of Ten" yesterday but I wanted to think about it first. I know I liked this story with an ex-Buddhist-monk who is also ex-LAPD and currently a private investigator living in Los Angeles. In a somewhat superficial way, the vibe reminded me just a bit of John Burdett's Sonchai Jitpleecheep series which I have an affection for so that may have influenced me while I was reading this book.

Tenzing "Ten" Norbu is an actual working PI largely due to his connection with an actor named Mac Gannon (a name I kinda like because it reminds of a cheesy 70s television series). It is Mac who prompts Ten to take a case of a missing housekeeper which of course leads to a bigger kettle of fish.

In the midst of this case, Ten is undergoing some personal life issues. His relationship with his girlfriend seems to be at its end. His father has passed away. He still doesn't quite fit in to modern... Read more
