Additional Information

To the Point:Divorced Christians, you likely have the right to remarry, and this book was written for you!!! It isn't for endless preachers' squabbles. Don't let an unaccredited trade school graduate who studied the subject 10 hours and had enough Greek to make him dangerous, insist you follow the "traditional view." What could be more traditional than the view taught by Martin Luther, Alexander Campbell, and David Lipscomb, none of whom believed the Matthew 19:9-only fad? Attackers unable to refute the book, if they read it at all, claim it was published for popularity; to the contrary, parroting the PC doctrine makes for popularity. But, providing the truth to my beloved divorced siblings in Christ, even with accompanying persecution, is "worth it all." Buy it for yourself, friends and family. Its time to put your doubts to rest!!! Weldon

I was impressed with the book overall. I do not agree with the author 100%, but I deeply appreciate his research and all the quotes from men like Alexander Campbell, Hugo McCord and Foy Wallace Jr. It was full of great information. My only criticisms are minor. First, the author did not really explain his understanding of Matthew 5:32, Matthew 19:3-12, 1 Corinthians 7:1-28 (at least). He did state that he believed that the "exception clause" did not refer to dabar ervah (some uncleanness) of which Moses wrote in Deuteronomy 24:1-4. What he failed to do was to explain his understanding of the exception clause. He stated that there is nothing in the original Greek word "porneia" to indicate it could mean the same thing as the Hebrew "dabar ervah". He even stated that no reputable expert in the Bible languages would support such a thing as well. Yet, I have found multiple "experts" that do believe porneia refers to dabar ervah.

The author spent a lot of time persuading the reader to have a conviction on essentially a few verses in the Bible. While I agree with his conclusion, he could have looked at the part of 1 Cor 7 on this subject in depth. Paul answers questions from the church in Corinth but the questions are not revealed. This leaves one guessing at what the questions could have been.

Too many books on this subject do not go in depth on 1 Corinthians 7. Not all marriage and divorce situations are the same. Too many preachers try to lump them together without doing a serious analysis of what Paul is saying in these verses about divorce and remarriage.
This book was very well written and the subject of divorce and remarriage was investigated and documented with scripture, bringing all of them together in context. I was impressed with the thoroughness of the author's research and very much enjoyed becoming reacquainted with scholars in the brotherhood who had dedicated their lives to the study of God's Word. I am a widow of four years, after being married to one man for 46 1/2 years, so I was able to read with a clear mind, not looking for justification of any divorces or marriages in my own life. I would recommend this book to everyone wanting an accurate understanding of scripture on the subject of marriage, divorce and remarriage.
