This is a very well researched and fascinating book. It is well written and intriguing and leaves you wanting more. Looking forward to the sequel coming out later this year.
A thoroughly enjoyable read, I was hooked from the start. The writing is amazing, the story inspiring and I am looking forward to the second book. Deffo 5 stars especially considering the low price.
The Valley of the Shadow tells an unusually exciting story about the trials of a realistic and struggling returned soldier, in the UK and then Zimbabwe. The period is that of the country's progressive removal from British Rule. The fast pace takes the reader from British rectitude into the heart and soul of the African continent, and in so doing it shows, as a part of the hectic story, that while there was and is, room for everyone at the 'table'; some went, and still, go short. In so doing it partially suggests a solution to this sorry anathema. It does this gently and sensibly, not, as can easily be done, over ambitiously. The next book in the series could be well worth reading for this reason, as well as for the page turning writing ability displayed in 'The Valley of the Shadow'. The characters are so well formed and interesting that you feel a part of their world. The setting is as good as the character formation and the fast paced plot. You feel as though you are there.
