i like the fact that she shows beginner and advanced exercises. I am 49 years old, over weight, four kids with one c-section. I have been looking for something that i can do and not feel inept and give up before giving it a real try. I have watched other videos and they are for young fit people that can pull themselves up (crunches, planks, etc.) she has those in her routine, however she shows us how to do it...at our level..level one!.
There r few safety or points of awareness. Mat Pilates can wreck havoc your neck, she just says "don't strain your neck". Assuming that people monitor these thingswell themselves is crazy. That's not advanced teaching it's just short sited. There could be another person doing it alongside with cues for "how to's". It's not just the neck there some other aspects as well. Maybe I'm asking too much, but as a yoga teacher and a person that's been certified to teach in many fitness fields (not Pilates, though I've done Stott style Pilates for years) I find this class potentially problematic. Some of my most advanced fitness students can not find pain free movements without being cued each time. Especially at this pace. It's a great way to kick your butt, but she even mentions an appointment to have a massage. Maybe it's too much? Not to tee-off the "fitness buffs", but this is missing wellness. No pain? No pain. Might (in the long run) be a better...
I love this workout video! I use it all the time, especially the beginning step aerobics. It is perfect for this 60-year-old who used to be very active with running, aerobics, biking, weight lifting, etc., but has gotten out of shape this past year or so. I've also tried the core workout and the easy kick boxing. Will do these again and want to try out the others (weight training, Pilates, etc.) that don't involve a bike or treadmill (which I don't have). Hope to work up to the intermediate levels of these. The instructors are pleasant and offer alternatives for different ability levels. All are well done, well instructed, and easy to follow in the bedroom in front of the computer where I have my workout area set up.
