The Thermo Scientific 4631Q Large Bidirectional Rotator is a benchtop analog shaker that uses 120V to operate at speeds between 0 to 25rpm, and has a stolid-state speed control continuous operation, a stainless-steel platform with white neoprene rubber mat, and a durable cold-rolled steel body with baked enamel finish. Smooth, consistent mixing is provided by the circular motion coupled with a rocking pattern at an angle of 6 degrees from horizontal through the 360-degree rotation. The gentle horizontal and vertical orbital rotation allows more rapid exchange of solvents, such as in staining and destaining gels, and affords lower backgrounds in blotting techniques. A solid-state speed control and continuous operation provides for ease of use. The stainless-steel platform with white neoprene rubber mat provides a non-skid surface. The rotator has a cold-rolled steel body with baked enamel finish for durability, and a low-maintenance continuous-duty motor and direct drive assembly without belts or pulleys to replace. This model conforms to European Conformity (CE) marking standards. Applications for this shaker include staining and destaining gels and blotting techniques.

Laboratory shakers agitate liquids during laboratory procedures. These devices can be analog or digital and are typically an automated, electrically powered, countertop unit that shakes liquid in lab containers, such as flasks, funnels, or test tubes. Some shakers can operate inside fume hoods, incubators, refrigerators, or other laboratory devices, and can include controls for the frequency and/or degree of movement. The types of shakers include: orbital, rocking, rolling, rotating, and wrist action. The most common orbital shaker provides a smooth, continuous, circular motion, sometimes with a tilt angle, for uniform mixing of contents. The rocking shaker creates gentle uniform mixing with a see-saw, or up and down, motion. Reciprocating, or rolling, shakers provide a horizontal side-to-side motion with simple agitation of samples. A rotating, or rotisserie, shaker provides samples with a rotating action that moves in a circular motion. Wrist-action shakers duplicate the effect of hand mixing with "arms" on each side of the unit. Some shakers have the ability to incubate or refrigerate samples while providing shaking action.
