Having rescued the young Lyndrian slave, Velladriana, from her vile tormentors, the inexperienced Oslyn cadet, Corwyn, continues on his quest to see her safely to the enchanted stronghold known as Mount Elderstone. The strange attraction that links Corwyn and Velladriana continues to grow, as do the magical powers building within her. Velladriana’s growing abilities make her a target for the dark power of mighty Lord Cartigas. In the shadows of their magical fortresses, Lord Caritgas orders his underling, Ronulen, to build a army that will battle against the world of the living and continue the task of finding the Pride. The one mystical being capable of fulfilling the ancient prophecy that will gain them dominion over the entire world, turning it into a hellish realm of the damned.
Throughout the Known Kingdoms, war looms imminent on the horizon as the kings, queens and nobility scheme and plot for power. Led by the Great Muse herself and her grand Herrod’s Council, the opportunistic Weavers use deceit and political posturing to jockey for position in this landscape of ever-escalating tensions. In the south, Reese, the deadly warrior of the Viper’s Legion, seeks to complete his secretive quest while protecting his newly acquired charges, the brave youngster Dolthaia and the spoiled Crispin Claxis, from the clutches of Maars the Lector and his zealous followers. As they make their way across the southern land, they learn of the developing unrest in the lands of Canodria and Medioc.
In the north, Barbarians threaten with the might of their clans, pulling the mighty kingdoms of Aldara and the dreaded Viper’s Legions into impending conflict.
In the east, the power of the dark scar on the world known as the Great Rift continues to grow as the flow of energy controlling the magical spark on the world of Tarune, known as the Caredon Cycle, reaches its 1000-year peak. In the west, Nightmares made flesh wait in the shadows for their moment to strike.
Joined by the streetwise rogue Eryk, the powerful fighter Rogen and the passionate, fun-loving Harper, Corwyn and Velladriana trek through the perilous reaches of the Nortgard Mountains. Action and adventure abound as this rag-tag band of mavericks battle their way across the windswept north, encountering and narrowly escaping dangerous creatures and perilous situations at every turn.
Swords will slash, shields will splinter, bows will fire and spells will be cast. All this, as the teenage slave girl, Velladriana, struggles to make sense of her growing powers and a destiny that is increasingly spiraling out of her control. She can save the world, or she can destroy it. Would you be able to carry that burden?

While shorter than QUEST FOR ELDERSTONE, this second entry in the Necromancers Pride series packs an exciting series of plot developments into its two hundred brief pages. In TIDES OF WAR the disparate plot threads begun in volume one of the series come together in a serious way, as the paths of fate bring together the diverse set of characters established in that first book. Volume two has the same strengths as volume one, featuring vividly written action and plenty of pointed satire. But equally gratifying is the development of all of the major characters. QUEST FOR ELDERSTONE was a literary juggling act, with the two authors faced with a daunting three-way task: introduce the world, introduce the characters and tell a story. With the world now established, and with fewer new characters to introduce, TIDES OF WAR focuses on moving the plot strands begun in the first book while further developing its stock of characters. My favorite characters (in both volumes) were Crispin and...
What I like about book two is all the opportunities Carpenter and Jones allow in the world of fantasy. There were several moments in the story where there doesn’t seem a way “out,” yet the characters magically make this happen. This resiliency in never giving up is so valuable for those of us in the mental health field, we want our clients to look for options, identify all possibilities, and find their strength - to use their inner and external resources for change. The magical bridge in the book can be just as magical in reality by helping our clients identify support systems that can help carry them along their healing journey. Book Two can really help clinicians gain insight on how a client's fantasy narrative can be interpreted into a realistic narrative.
There are a LOT of "indie" books out there as it's easier to get published now. And with that, like YouTube, there's a lot of nonsense out there. I took a chance on the first one, honestly, because the cover just looked really interesting. And I got surprised -- this was a really fun and fast read. If you haven't read it yet, it's like a well-updated Lord of the Rings for today's audience, or perhaps a more paletable version of Game of Thrones. Both of those, while excellent, lingers on endless details, whereas Necromancer cuts to the chase and keeps you flying by the seat of your pants. All this to say, when I learned there was a sequel, i got really excited. Most of the time, sequels disappoint or fall short in some way because your expectations are just too high. Fortunately, these guys came through again and really delivered. Without giving anything away, the first one was a really good set-up and things get even juicier in this book. And last chapter of Book 2,...
