No Compromise Bridge Humbucker: Auto-splits in 2-position, to retain that legendary Strat quack
No generic parts (450G pots, 400V/600V caps) - only our custom parts, RIGHT for your application
Tonally-Optimized Volume Pot: 500k in 1-position (bridge hum), switches to 250k in positions 2-5
Professional wiring diagram - the highest-quality documentation in the industry
Separate the Fender / Gibson Tones: Dedicated 1-position tone control does not affect 2-5 positions
Challenge: combine single-coils + humbucker in Strat without compromising tone or hum-canceling; and optimize pot values.
Accomplish all three easily with our HSS Auto-Split kit, and customize the tone controls to boot:
Auto-split the humbucker in the 2-position - combining only one coil with the middle pickup. Retains hum-canceling (pickups permitting), and most-closely approximates Strat's 2-position tone. Our narrow 5-way superswitch does this automatically.
Pot values? Don't compromise. 500k volume pot lets the humbucker sound right, but adding a resistor in the other positions drops it to 250k so the other positions sound great.
And our narrow superswitch allows us to customize the tone controls! Different pot and cap values for each tone control optimizes them for their respective positions: Gibson values for the "Gibson" position (1), and Fender values for the "Fender" positions (2/3/4/5).
Great product, replaces everything, fits and all the parts feel well made. You do need to know a little bit about circuitry to put this together, especially if you're like me and you're mixing pickup brands. To address phase issues, you'll need a bit of trial and error to get electricity flowing in the right direction. Also note that the wire colors for the humbucker listed in the wiring diagram do not necessarily correspond with the wire colors. I wired mine up according to the colors and the humbucker sounded weak and my tone knob acted like a volume knob. I recommend calling their phone number, the guy that helped me was super helpful and informative.
My setup I went with is an EMG H4 at the bridge with two Seymour Duncan SSL-1 with the middle being reverse wound. The H4 is wired Red = N-, Black = N+, White = S+, Green = S- The guy I spoke to recommended that I wire the humbucker is series rather than parallel. He had me put the white and green together, red on...
The kit contained all the parts as expected. There was some ambiguity about how one resistor gets installed but Tone Shapers very quickly provided a clarification email and an updated set of instructions. All of the parts have a very high quality feel. The superswitch, pots, and jack all appear very well made. The functionality of the HSS2 kit was also exactly what I was after. I could have spent time buying all of these items separately and then figuring out how to wire everything up but this was the way to go. I did have to slightly enlarge the pot holes in my Fender Strat pickguard to 3/8". The original pots were slightly smaller.
Just what I needed to complete the hot-rodding my Squier HSS strat. Great components, great instructions. Simple installation if you know which end of a soldering iron to hold onto, lol. Highly recommended.
