Chinul (1158-1210) was the founder of the Korean tradition of Zen. In this tradition, the optimal regimen of training starts with an initial sudden awakening to the mind's inherent radiance and enlightenment, followed by gradual cultivation of that awakening, so that one can learn to act as well as be enlightened.
