In recent years, much has occurred in the field of traumatology, including the widening of the audience and the awareness of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). This book from celebrated traumatology pioneer Charles Figley, further clarifies the concept of compassion fatigue through theory, research, and treatment. The basic thesis of this book is the identification, assessment, and treatment of compassion fatigue and this is done over eleven chapters, each from distinguished researchers in the field.

I was looking for concrete suggestions and concepts to present that could shed more in-depth light on the subject for a group I lead. I spent some time looking through the chapters, but only found some marginal help (not much new) on comments about humor helping the immune system. It would have helped if the writer had acknowledged the slow steady build up of compassion fatigue for care givers that may occur, and offered more practical ways to address this reality.
This text is a easy read and the quality of the book was in excellent condition. Seller mailed out my text in a timely manner and the listed price was more than reasonable.
Great resource for understanding and identifying compassion fatigue in professionals and victims. Figley is the leading author on the subjects of compassion fatigue and burnout.
