I liked the book and have been looking for it for years. I used to totally enjoy the Trump Series on NBC prior to them turning it into a celebrity cool points show. I stopped watching when George left and they allowed people whom are already stars and rich take over a show that was intially for the common folks trying to get a job. While indeed it is great that the winnings go to charity, these folks have the wherewithall to give to charity without the uppinnings of this show. Anyway the book is good. I liked it and would have liked it with out the Donald Trump did this or that lessons. I could care less what he does or did. I was looking for Georges feedback as a lawyer. While Donald Trump is a great business man, he has so many forums and outlets to get his point of view across, we have all heard enough from him. I am a small business owner negotiating two contracts at the same time. Since I cannot go to Columbia and take Mr. Ross' class, this book is the next best thing. It is easy to process (thank you, I don't have the time to study and calculate wordy phrases) and oh so on target! Truly it has taught me how to negotiate what I want while being open minded and flexible at the same time. In closing contract number one, I know I have saved thousands of dollars with negotiating lower rent, increasing the landlord's assistance with build out, and exercising future options. The second contract is more of a battle as the landlord wants me to do a lot of permanent build out on my dime. Because of Trump Style Negotiation, I will know to walk away unless we get to middle ground...or closer to my side. Since I've read this book, I have passed it on and purchased another one to have as a manual. I am a big fan of Mr. Ross' expertise and appreciate his style.
I loved this book and its message. It is hard to find a more experienced negotiator than George Ross. His insights are invaluable to the entrepreneur who negotiates sometimes hourly in the world of business, let alone the constant negotiations in everyday life and personal situations. This book applies to all of the above. He shows that being a nice person and yet a skilled negotiator do indeed go hand in hand. As a bonus, you get a view into the mind of Donald Trump and his philosophies on doing business, and highlighting his skill at big picture strategic thinking and complex deal making. It is also an excellent testimony to the team approach to business, with Mr. Trump providing the vision and relationship building, and Mr. Ross providing the execution of the plan including negotiation. One thing is certain when you read this book. You will always appreciate the power of creativity and never giving up.
