Tubular Bells was my first foray into Progressive music, and it has stayed with me ever since. I originally owned it on vinyl. That collection is long gone. I've been listening to music via MP3 and computer of late, so when I dug out and updated my old hi-fi equipment; I re-learned how enjoyable music is: straight from the CD. So I went in pursuit of Tubular Bells. Don't give the 2003 version a look - its horrific (somehow John Cleese does not add anything positive). Search for an original 1973 and in the US at least you'll pay close to $100. So enter the 2009 Deluxe Edition. I listened with joy to the original 1973 mix and relived my earlier pleasure. Only it was better, courtesy of some better Hi-Fi components.

This really was a groundbreaking work. When originally released, it helped define a lot of the instrumental (new age, etc.) music that would come afterward. I hadn't listened to it in decades, but remembered it fondly and was excited about seeing it in this format. The digital quality is great--the recording is nice and clean, and sounds really good. Maybe even too good, because without the analog ambiance of vinyl, a lot of the editing bumps and jumps are more evident. And honestly, the composition isn't quite as cool as I remembered. However, it's still a nice listen, and it's certainly worth the current special sale price.
I love Tubular Bells, as far back to when first came out as album in1973 on Virgin Records, it was Virgin Records first album release. One best album of its kind ever made to me. I still plays it a lot theses days in my older age. Well put together from musical artists Mike Oldfield and Tubular Bells beginning part was use as the theme to The Movie " Exorcist ". So give it a list sometime, its a great sound to your ears
