Additional Information

Fourteen-year-old Francis is heading west in a wagon train on the Oregon Trail when he’s kidnapped by Pawnees. His adventures during the two-year search for his family teach him how to live by the harsh code of the wilderness, and give readers an exciting panoramic vision of the West at a time of settlement and of war with Mexico. Along the way, Francis meets up with Mr. Grimes, a one-armed mountain man, and later rescues Lottie and Billy, children abandoned on the prairie. Together the three encounter bandits, soldiers, storms, eccentric travellers, and discover an ancient treasure. But the real treasure lies at the end of the trail—Tucket’s home.

This is not a review of the series itself. This is a review of the quality of the translation from physical copy to electronic copy. I am a teacher, and have historically read this entire series to my students. I recently purchased this kindle set because I had misplaced one of the books from my set and the price was right. Imagine my chagrin when, reading aloud to my class, I encounter multiple typographical errors on one page. Some of these errors are so egregious, my reading fumbles to a halt as I try to navigate a jungle of errors. Most of the time the errors were minor, if plenty, and could be traversed without too much difficulty. There are a few, however, so tangled and unreadable as to seized my tongue and brought reading to a standstill. If an update is forthcoming to correct the poor quality, I will retract this for a more favorable review.

If anyone knows how to contact the author, who I imagine would not be happy with this portrayal of his work, He could... Read more
I first read this book in middle school and i loved it. I was stoked when i found out that there were multiple books and that i could buy them all in one big book. I read this book again as an adult and i loved it as much as i had loved it the first time i read it. I even convinced my father (who likes Westerns, survival books, etc) to read it and he also liked it.
Don't buy! Great stories but very disappointed to get near the end of the first book only to find a chunk missing. After page 118 it skips to 151 omitting 5 chapters! The next book has the same pages 151-166 inserted after pg 14 but at least that book starts over again and seems to be complete. The other three seem to be complete too but we want to complete the first book before reading the other 4.
