As far as suspense is concerned, this book was heavy. The book starts out with Miranda walking down the quiet street of her hometown, mourning the loss of her nephew, whom she mothered since he was two. But within just a few paragraphs, her life was turned upside down and she was being forced into a car of the stranger she helped! From there until the end of the book, we have two people running for their lives - first to Lakeview, then to Thailand, trying to prove that they are innocent of the crime they are accused of.
Hawke was an interesting character. He was in the third book of this series, and I admit that I was a bit leery of reading his story because he was just such a harsh, hard, unlikable man in that book. But a year has passed and he's softened a bit. Was he handsome? I have no idea. The author described him with hair long enough to wear in a ponytail and a scar across his face. But I get the impression that he was...
I enjoyed this book. The suspense was good and the characters were very likeable. I would recommend this book for light summer reading.
Shirley McCoy has written many books that interconnect - or a series within a series. We meet Hawk Morran in Even in the Darkness. In Valley of Shadows, Hawke Morran is an undercover DEA agent in the states. He is framed for the murder of a DEA agent. Miranda Sheldon had to get away from her sister. She couldn't have imagine that saving a man's life could land her in so much trouble. Instead of attending her nephew's funeral, Miranda goes with Hawk to Thailand to discover who has betrayed him. Miranda and Hawk have things they need to lay at God's feet and let him deal with them. This book is a great read.
