This elegant nutcracker's angled teeth grip nuts firmly, preventing them from slipping. Because pressure is exerted solely by the teeth, the shell can be cracked open without damaging the nut inside. The handles are comfortable to hold, and the tool's weight is perfectly balanced for ease of use.
Cracks the shell - not the kernel easy to use - no catching of fingers
Spring-loaded opening mechanism opens the cracker just right

I bought this for Brazil nuts after reading the rave reviews. I eat all kinds of in shell nuts. I think I will break this review down in to nut types. I will start with the ones this performs well with and end with the ones it is bad at.
Walnuts. 5 stars. Opens them easily. Nut is easy to extract from shell. Catches most all of the waste.
Pecans. 5 stars. Performance same as Walnuts.
Filberts. 5 stars. Although small. This cracks them easily no waste. No mess.
Almonds. 3 stars. The best way I have found to crack these is to hold them up against the top lip outside of the cup. It opens them. Although 99% of the time they need a lot of work from your fingers afterwards. Waste catching feature useless here.
Brazil Nuts. 1 star. They will not fit in it anyway that doesn't mangle them. I have gotten one to open without wasting any of the nut. A hammer is way better than this. It's also very messy. Once the cracker mangles the nut you...
The first nutcracker I remember as a little boy consisted on a claw hammer and the cement steps to our house. I soon graduated to the one that consisted to two metal handles, a hinge and, if it were a super sophisticated one, a spring which held the two handles open. Now I started using this hinge type about 67 years ago and I cannot tell you how many pinched fingers, blood blisters and shell fragments I received in the eye to say nothing of the mess on my mother's floor and now my wife's. I love fresh nuts, cracked by me, but sometimes it was almost not worth the pain and mess.
This little gadget being reviewed here is quite a step up. It does have two handles and is spring loaded but the resemblances to the old style stops there. The working end of this thing is sort of like a small container with teeth in it...teeth of various sizes. You place the nut into the container portion, squeeze and boom...you nut is cracked! Due to the design of the thing it is almost impossible...
The only type of nutcracker I have ever used is the ones we are all probably familiar with... this is luxury cracking right here. The big, rounded handles are just one aspect, but the most immediate telling one. No little bars of metal digging into a small part of my palm as I crunch down.
Another is how the grooves inside are set just right. Although that time I shot a extra hard nut into a family member's wine glass years back was pretty dang funny, this one here really does get a good grip on them, not to mention it's one sided so - crack, tilt, enjoy. No shell aftermath since everything, including the itsy bitsy fragments, gets poured straight into my palm.
And finally, the spring action really does make the whole operation one-handed, so a potential good choice for the nut lover who has less mobility in one hand than the other.
(Add: I only personally crack the smaller varieties, yet after noticing the review concerning the bigger ones, I checked...
