There are few units in the United States military as well known and as highly regarded as the Airborne infantry. These men are often some of the first on the ground and dive into some of the most hostile territory. In World War II their stories have been immortalized in movies such as “Band of Brothers”. There’s more to their story though. There were Airborne units on the ground throughout Europe and the Pacific fronts. Not only were there American Airborne units on the ground, but there were British units as well. These are some of their stories.
Learn more about the historic origins of these brave men. What country started the Airborne Troops? What were some of the challenges that they faced? How were these units trained and developed?
Read about the 82nd, under the command of the “Jumpin’ General” who was one of the first volunteers to sign up for the newly minted United States Paratroopers. Find out what happened when a troop drop went horribly wrong and how he turned chaos into success. Read about the battlefields of Normandy and the lessons that we learned from Sicily’s tragic outcome. Find out more about their successes and continued struggles. What did our fighting men face both in the air and on the ground?
This book is action packed and filled with facts and stories of some of the lesser known units that fought on the ground in World War II. Their stories are at time harrowing and filled with peril. Ultimately, each man gave something to help win the war for the Allied Forces. Read their stories here.
Comments From Other Readers
“I loved Band of Brothers. I thought the show was really well put on so I was eager to read this book. I liked that it was a brief history but the stories were fantastic. There is so much life in each one and at times I can picture the events playing out in front of me. To be honest, I’m not much of a history buff so the back stories, giving historical reference were great as well. Wonderful little book!” - Eddly H. (Georgia, US)
“My grandfather had been at Normandy. He thankfully survived but, would never speak of the war. I never really understood until years later when I finally started to do my own research. I was shocked by some of the stories that I’ve ready but overall I’m proud of what my grandfather did for his country and for the freedom of others. This book is just phenomenal for anyone who wants to understand how the war really happened. There is history and stories from the men that lived it themselves. I loved it!” - Nicole W - (California, US)

I have purchased a lot of books by Ryan Jenkins and WWII : True stories of the airborne Paratroopers is just another good read. This time purchased it on Sale , so I didn’t really pay anything . It is another interesting overview by the author , In this book the most interesting part was about the ‘ Band Of Brothers ’ .The stories in this book were fantastic and some were really touching . The best thing that impresses me about these books is that they are not strictly a retelling of a diary or journal ; the author’s efforts in creating the background story of historical and cultural significance , is praiseworthy. This book is almost too short , but highlights its stories well . That is why I would rather say – commendable job Jenkins ! I really like your books and I will surely look forward to reading more of them in future. Earns a good 5 stars from me.
This is another great book from Ryan Jenkins'. As I've said before, Jenkins' has a penchant for breathing life into well-known history. A breath of little-known and very fascinating tales of heroism, military acumen and world history specifically with the Soldier Stories series. Honestly, I had little interest in the subject matter but, after reading Jenkins' books, I'm hooked.
Here I learned about a specific group of soldiers - the Airbourne infantry. These soldiers had one of the most dangerous jobs in the war effort of diving into hostile terriotory. I couldn't conceptualize the bravery needed to do such things amidst gunfire and planes!!! After reading this I want to learn more about the Airbourne infantry - I'll binge watch Band of Brothers for more understanding - visualized understanding. I recommend this for anyone interested in WWII or soldiers in general.
When we see movies, especially Hollywood movies because of its wide reach, we don’t realize that many stories on which the movies are based are absolutely true. For example, the Steven Spielberg movie ‘Band of Brothers’ had been inspired by one such true event – the paratroopers of the Second World War from the US Airborne Division. This ebook brings forth the true events of the paratroopers, the real men behind the daring acts. The book consists of 4 chapters but insists it’s just a short introduction to the subject of the paratroopers of the US army. It deals with three major paratroopers’ invasion during the war including ‘the Operation Varsity’ which was the biggest one during the war. The writing is informative, factual and written in a manner finely balancing objectivity with a minimal glimpse of emotion. It somehow lends credibility to the voice. I read this book as a source of information about something I knew little about...
