Is he worth the heartbreak? At nearly forty, Julie isn’t so sure she’ll ever find a man who is, so she’s vowed that all her big 4-0 decisions will have zip to do with relationships. A successful theater manager, she agrees to travel to North Carolina and help a friend put her erotic performance theater on its feet. Julie has always been curious and drawn to the BDSM world, and now she can safely explore that world in the environment she knows best. Desmond Hayes is the roofing contractor repairing their rundown theater building, but he’s also a rigger, well-known in the BDSM world for his rope artistry. He’s not just a top, though; he’s a Dom whose unexpected quirks mesh too well with Julie’s eccentric personality and awakens her submissive side. From the time he was born, Des has been fighting the odds against him. Because of that, he’s kept his relationships inside the scene with clear boundaries. While Julie had almost given up on finding a person worth loving through better or worse—or pleasure and pain—Des never expected to receive that gift. He’s not letting that treasure get away—no matter how much rope he has to use to bind her to him.

I run out of superlatives when it comes to putting my feelings down on "paper" about a Joey W. Hill story. And really, this time, the title says it all anyway, but as is her habit, Ms. Hill does not settle for the tried-and-true in finding the perfect characters, despite their flaws, to place into the perfect setting.
The inestimable "Nature of Desire" series gives gentle Julie her long-awaited, well deserved though, very hard-earned HEA. Long time readers will recognize her as Marcus and Thomas' lonely friend from "Rough Canvas", but she comes into her own when she and Des navigate the usual relationship issues in the midst of some UN-usual circumstances. Des is a compellingly unconventional Hero with a penchant for all things rope and an appallingly fatalistic outlook. Their core strengths as individuals are combined into a powerful force in this emotional journey, wherein they manage, through determination and tenacity, to guide one another...
Worth the Wait (Nature of Desire #9) by Joey W. Hill is as complex and simple as love itself. We met Julie in Rough Canvas (Nature of Desire #6) and now as she nears 40 she finally meets a man she can fall for whether she should or not is a whole other thing. Julie has made poor choices in men except for Marcus and Thomas her best friends who are totally committed to each other. She wants a love like theirs and despairs of ever finding it. When she lets go and lets life steer her to new challenges life throws Desmond Hayes in her path. The attraction is instant and combustible. Julie is outraged that the fates are playing her this way. Can she move past her past and give Des and the future a chance? Worth the Wait will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions that will leave you breathless. This is the type of story that stays with you way past the last page.
4.5 stars. I have never read anything by the author before, but a saw a recommendation from another author I like and decided to give this book a try. However, I must say that I almost stopped reading partway through because 1. you can't sob at the gym where I end up doing a lot of my reading, and 2. I always want an HEA. I soldiered on and was rewarded!
What a great book! The building of emotion, the character building, the layers upon layers of angst, love, and information were wonderful. The ebb and flow of the story, the build up, the plateau, and more build up like the Dom in the story keeping the sub just on the edge. Great.
I loved the secondary characters and their interaction with the h/h so much so that I want to go back to earlier books and see if any of them are about these characters.
