Arrived promptly and initially functional. Dug 4 eight inch holes with plenty or torque and amazing ease. Then the clutch started to slip... more and more. Never got a 5th hole completed. Let it "cool" just in case. Didn't help. Will no longer drill even 6 inches down (in SAME SOIL as before) without just sitting there and slipping. Seller tells me (in broken english) that I "just need to drill smaller holes" that's not going to work to sink 4 x 6" posts. Then I am told "it's too late for a refund"... I never asked for a refund. I asked 1) Is the clutch adjustable 2) If not, will you replace the unit. As of this writing I am being ignored. I will happily update this review .. IF .. they resolve this.
I read some of the other reviews and was skeptical about purchasing this item. My yard has a lot of big rocks and roots once you get down below 8" . I was able to dig down with much more ease than I figured with this unit. The unit pretty much stops or the clutch slips if you hit something big. You don't have to force it to dig the hole just let the weight of the machine do the work for you. If you have to push it down then something is wrong (this is when you'll damage the motor and or clutch) . You have to get you hands dirty a little and pull up rocks or debris that are in the way. Given that it took me over 2 hours to dig 6 holes manually and under 2 hours to do 20 holes with this unit, I'd say it's well worth the price . My shoulder and hip pretty much agree it was worth it too ! I did purchase the 8 " bit but found it to be too clumsy and difficult to keep under control with all the rocks and roots and the clutch slipped way too easy. The motor didn't overheat and the...
I did not experience the (clutch lock up and burn out ?) that another reviewer wrote about.
I bought a separate eight inch wide bit.
I recommend this for light work, go easy with it , try to back out at least half way every three inches. That would lighten the load and the motor will cool down during the no load high rpms. Clean the grass off the bit after first six inches of penetration. Watch out if you hit a rock longer than two inches or a root thicker than half inch. You will have to remove that rock or cut that root with a hack saw or other methods.
To the machine's credit i dug over 40 post holes over several days. I did not have to worry about an engine, pull cord, fuel, smoke, or laying it on the side.
