How to Make Fonio Stovetop: In a small washed saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, stir a tsp of any oil into 1/2 cup of fonio until grains are coated and not clumping. Add salt (1/2 tsp) and 1 cup water and stir well. Bring to a boil, then cover, remove from heat, and let it sit for 5 minutes. Fluff gently and rapidly with a fork or by running the thin edge of a spoon back and forth. Microwave: In a bowl, stir a tsp of any oil into 1/2 cup of fonio until grains are coated and not clumping. Add salt (1/2 tsp) and 1 cup water and stir well. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and cook for 2 minutes. Let it sit for two minutes, covered. Fluff gently and rapidly with a fork or by running the thin edge of a spoon back and forth. Unlike traditional white rice, fonio is very forgiving - if it comes out soggy, cook it for another minute or two. If it comes out dry and undercooked, add a little water and cook again. These things always recovers. We recommend 1/4 cup of fonio for 1-2 people (depending on how hungry you are!). Yolélé fonio is pre-washed for your convenience.
