On the night of 7 July 1937, near the Marco Polo Bridge in hot summer, with the sudden ringing gunshots, The Marco Polo Bridge Incident happened which is the marker for the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War. As early as the Mukden Incident on 18 September 1931,the war between the Republic of China and the Imperial Japanese was inevitable, but Kuomintang(KMT) goverment who had just completed unifing in 1928 bore humiliation from Japanese's provocation in order to gain more time to enhance national power.Under the situation of internal revolt and foreign invasion, KMT was still able to make achievement in the golden ten years of development.
After the Marco Polo Bridge Incident,the Japanese Army occupied Pingjing at the end of July, Battle of Songhu happened on 13 August, the undeclared total war between Japan and China started. After the fall of Nanjing by the end of 1973, Japanese Army was continuously defeated in the battle of Xuzhou, The heroic fight
of national army allowed more time for the preparation of the vital defense of Wuhan, after four mouths' fierce battle, Chinese army successfully tired out Japanese troop, covered the strategic retreat of military, industry and personnel.
Thereafter, the Sino-Japanese War entered the stalemate phase of strategic adjustment, with the outbreak of Pacific War in 7 December 1941,the Sino-Japanese War became an important part of Pacific War, with the mighty military attack from Allied powers,the Empire of Japan announced the unconditional surrender in 15 August 1945, China's extremely hard and bitter sino-Japanese war ended in triumph.
The Sino-Japanese War brought very grave disaster,and it left a deep influence on Chinese history.
