In what suitable light source should I use the infrared filters?

680nm for indoor and weak Shadows use.
720nm for indoor and weak light use.
760nm for cloudy outdoor at nightfall and brightness indoor.
850nm for indoor and weak cloudy outdoor light.
950nm for outdoor and strong light, such as summer time.

Please set a custom white balance of your camera. The way to set different cameras may vary, please check your manual.
The exposure time is relatively long when using IR filters, a tripod is necessarily needed at this situation. We also suggest you to use a cable release in case shake happens.

Common problems of IR filters

Hotspots are a relatively common problem with infrared. It is due to internal reflection of light inside a lens. Normal lenses have coated barrels to absorb light, but these coatings don't always work in infrared, causing these problems.

1.Hotspots can often be eliminated by changing the aperture.
2.Hotspots occur most often in the same type of shooting angles that cause lens flare. In this case, hotspots can usually be avoided by shooting away from bright sources of light.

On converted cameras, the exposure meters still work based on visible light. This can occasionally cause some under or over exposure because the visible and infrared light of a scene may not be the same.

the product works great. if with it on your camera you don't see anything but black, even in a nice sunshine day with shutter speed 1" iso like 200 to 400, then your camera is not sensitive to infrared. that doesn't means your camera is not good, may be for normal use, it can be a good thing. change to a small DC, at leaset nikon L32 works with this filter if you put it in front of the lens. and some cell phone camera works with it too. such as Nokia Lumix 635.

before you buy it, here's a way you can make sure your camera is sensitive with IR: use your TV remote controller point to yoru camera, press any controller keys, by your eyes you won't see anything, but from camera LCD, you can see a dot on the top end of the controller. if the dot is not bright, then your camera may not sensitive, like my sony NEX 5T, a3000, and a6000, and Canon 5D, they all shows the dot but dim color, and won't work. But my nikon L32, shows a bright pink color (very close to white) dot, that... Read more
great lens it's much better than the old one I have.
I've purchased several ZOMEi 850nm filters for a scientific application. All have been of consistent quality and have worked well. I've also tried very expensive (10-20X $) specialized bandpass filters from other sources but have found the ZOMEi filters to offer the best value.
